Bootmgr is missing press alt+ctrl+del to restart is a common error that is caused due to one of the multiple reasons which we will discus in this article. When you start your PC, first it loads the routines from BIOS and then boots the windows. When the system is unable to boot the window, this screen appears.

Why Bootmgr is missing press alt+ctrl+del to restart error occurs?

The possible reasons for Bootmgr error are listed below;

· Boot sector viruses

· Failed Windows installs

· Failed Windows Updates

· Crashed Hard Disk

· Booting from non-bootable hard drive or USB

How to Fix bootmgr is missing press ctrl+alt+del to restart error?

Method 1. Start-up Repair

Follow the steps below to perform start-up repair.

1. Insert the Windows Installation CD/DVD and restart computer.

2. Press any key when it asks so.

3. After selecting language, time and keyboard settings, select Repair your computer.

4. Select the drive where your window is installed. By default, it is C:\

5. Select Start-up repair.

Wait for the process to complete and restart the PC to verify if the problem is solved.

Method 2. Rebuild the BCD using bootrec.exe

Bootrec.exe is a Windows utility that allows to configure the boot options. BCD (Boot Configuration Data) contains the boot settings and controls how the window will boot. Follow the steps below to fix bootmgr is missing press alt+ctrl+del error.

1. Insert the Windows Installation CD/DVD and restart computer.

2. Press any key when it asks so.

3. After selecting language, time and keyboard settings, select Repair your computer.

4. Select the drive where your window is installed. By default, it is C:\

5. Click Next.

6. Select Command Prompt from the System Recovery Options

7. Run the command bootrec /rebuildbcd

8. Also, run the command bootrec /fixboot

Restart PC to verify if the Bootmgr error is resolved.

Method 3. Remove any non-bootable device attached with PC

This is the easiest fix you must try first of all. Remove any non-bootable device like external hard drive, USB drive, Floppy or any other storage media is attached with your PC.

Verify by restarting your PC. It the bootmgr error is gone, then your boot order needs to be fixed. Go to your BIOS settings and change the boot order to boot from hard drive containing windows.

Method 4. Perform clean installation of Windows

If none of the methods above resolve bootmgr error message, perform the clean installation of windows. Try to pick the windows that is compatible with your PC and format the windows partition before installing the new windows.

Method 5. Use recovery software or replace hard drive.
